The Weekly Word

Bright Lights

“You are the light of the world…let your light shine before others, so that they may see…”
Matthew 5:14, 16

sparkIn every believer is a divine life giving spark! The spark is Christ Himself who is our light and life. We have no light of our own unless Jesus shines through us. He is alive to shine forever! Even death’s darkness could not extinguish His Light. Our greatest reach into the lives of others doesn’t come from what we preach or teach, but how we live. The gospel is best communicated through our demeanor and not just our doctrine.

The credibility of the church when it preaches God’s love for the lost depends on whether the church itself goes out to people in their lostness, identifies itself with them, and in a priestly way makes their predicament its own. In the words of the holiness Irish preacher, Robert Murray McCheyne, we need to pray to be the kind of Christians who make it easy for others to believe in God. I want to be the kind of Christian sung about in the old hymn, “Lord, I Want to be a Christian in my Heart.” God wants to give us more than a ticket to heaven but a transformed life while we are on our way! He wants to get into our mouths, our manners, and our motives.

A.W. Tozer once posed the question, “Aren’t all Christians alike?” Then he answered with a resounding “No. Not all Christians are alike. Some shine like the stars in heaven – some big, some little, and some you have to take a telescope to see.”

Prayer: Risen Lord, we recognize that our good works don’t save us, but they do mark us. We want to be marked as bright lights shining forth the reality of your kingdom. Transform our lives until others see you and you are glorified!

Shine, Jesus Shine through us,

Pastor Chris
