PrioritiesVerse of Meditation: Do you ever feel like the frustrated little boy I saw in a cartoon recently? He said, “God put me on earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now I am so far behind I will probably never be allowed to die.” There is so much to do in life that priorities must be carefully selected so that we can accomplish the right things. “We must be selective in order to be effective.” Peter Drucker, a true Christ follower and a legendary business leader, encouraged every leader whether in the church, office, or home to determine priorities by:
Setting priorities is a necessary part of self-leadership. Fruitfulness can be stifled if we work too hard or long at secondary things. It has been said that “the reason most major goals are not achieved is that we spend our time doing second things first.” As we enter the New Year, I hunger to hunker down on first things. Setting priorities will promote health, grow enthusiasm, and ensure that the right things are accomplished. Jesus stayed focused by putting His relationship with the Father first. Samuel Brengle, the great leader of the Salvation Army once said, “I have only one temptation…to want to do something for God each day before I’ve spent time with Him. If I win the battle with this temptation, everything else in my life falls into place.” Benjamin Franklin began each day by asking what good shall I do today for the kingdom? He closed each day by asking what good have I done for the kingdom today? Praying that Jesus will have first place in our lives, |
