We ask you as you come to the Christmas Eve service this year to bring items from the following list to place in "care bags" for the homeless of Nashville. We will collect the items on Chrismas Eve and the Sunday following and then prepare bags to take into the streets of Nashville. Would you please provide the following:

toothbrush/toothpaste
soap
wash cloth and towel
blanket
deodorant
New Testament
socks
knit caps
McDonald's gift card for $5

Our children's ministry is collecting "Change for a Change" to buy mosquito nets to help prevent malaria in Africa. Each net costs $10 with a total collection to date of $314.70. Each Sunday from now until the end of the year our children will be at the doors as you leave to collect your "pocket change" to help "change" the life of a child in Africa. Thank you for helping our children make a change.

Beginning Sunday, December 20, Pastor Chris will lead a four week series during ACTS 2:42 on Brother Lawrence's classic book, "Practicing the Presence of God". This will be an interactive time together integrating content, prayer and spiritual conversation. This will be a wonderful way to end 2009 and begin 2010.

Coming in January for Acts 2:42, share with Pastor Anita in a six week study called Fearless! More details to come.

Pounds for Papa... a support group for people who want to lose weight.... we will lose it for God's glory. Each week there will be a short time of sharing Bible verses, weigh in and email encouragement. Pastor Chris or Pastor Anita will help us celebrate our weight loss with announcements. It won't take much of your time as we will weigh in immediately following the worship service each week and share a few minutes - scripture, encouragement and maybe even recipes. Our goal is weight loss and getting our temple in order. If you have questions, please contact Carol Whitey.

It is time for us to begin sign-up for 2010 cleaning of the church. If you or your family would be willing to clean the church for one month during the new year, please contact Pastor Anita or sign-up on Sunday.

The Ladies Prayer Group meets Wednesday at 9:15 a.m and the Men's Prayer Group meets Thursday at 6:30 a.m. at The Orchard Ministry Center.

The church office will be closed December 24 - January 3. Pastor Chris and Pastor Anita will be available by phone in case of emergency.

THE SECRET PANTRY

“I have food to eat that yo
know nothing about”

~ John 4:32 ~

Jesus offers these words to his hungry disciples who were really just asking, “What’s for lunch?” As usual, Jesus is on a heavenly realm while his followers continued to be fixed on a more earthly one. He is always trying to help us see the unseen.

Since childhood, my brothers and I have enjoyed visiting our grandmother. Her house seems like any other, but it’s no ordinary house if you know the secret. On almost every end table and coffee table throughout the house are ceramic and crystal bowls with lids. Inside each container is an assortment of treats – lots of chocolate, orange slices, gum drops, and whatever else Mamaw’s sweet tooth might be craving at the time. For years I’ve heard a Tupperware container in the corner of the kitchen filled with chocolate pinwheels calling out my name. Packs of juicy fruit chewing gum are lined up on top of the refrigerator.

Every time we came home we could truthfully say to our Mom, “We have had food to eat that you know nothing about.” Mamaw had a secret pantry. Jesus says to each of us hungry disciples, “I’ve got a secret pantry, a great stash for you! It’s behind everything I do.” He said, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work” (4:34).

Jesus’ ultimate source of nourishment was his secret, private and personal relationship with His Father. This motivated everything he did. It is this hidden food that will sustain us at all times just like it did Jesus – through the wilderness of temptation, through persecution, through rejection, through the fire and the flood and even those times when we face something as horrible as a cross. The Holy One has a stash for us, eternal food for our souls.

Don’t wait another moment. Go right now to the Lord and ask Him to feed your hungry soul. Make your way to the secret pantry.

For More Feeding on the Father,

Pastor Chris
