The Value of a Face“But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed Faces can be fabulous or not so fabulous. I am not insinuating physical beauty but the potential loveliness of the face of a person alive in Christ. I can’t help but think of two elderly Christian women at the assisted living whose faces light up every room they enter and every soul they meet. The Spirit speaks through their faces. Sometimes I literally feel my sagging soul being lifted to heights of praise and pleasure at one glance of their countenances. Abraham Lincoln once said, “Persons over forty are responsible for their own face.” This thought may seem ridiculous to some, but to others it may serve as a call to surrender. Perhaps face control is a spiritual discipline in that we offer our faces to God as His billboards of good news. If he can use our mouths to help save others, surely He can use our faces also. As we offer up, He shines through. I don’t know exactly how to do this. I do know that we most often become like what we look at. The Psalmist said, “Those who look at him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed” (34:5). Like Stephen, if we gaze into heaven we will see and show the glory of the Lord even when others are trying to harm us. What is the value of your face? What is it saying to others? Have you asked Him lately to use your face to speak His good news? Pray with me: “Lord Jesus, take and remake my face. Let it not be sour or dour, sad or mad, but full of your radiant joy that has overcome the world and all its’ tribulations. Let my face be a resounding ‘amen’ to the transforming love of the Heavenly Father.” Looking at Him,
