The Wonder of the Wind“The wind blows wherever it pleases…” “Suddenly a sound like the blowing The wind can blow at any moment. Several years ago, Tonya and I traveled to the Virgin Islands to officiate the wedding of one of my cousins. The worship service was in a Lutheran Church located in Cruz Bay in the heart of the marketplace. The sounds of taxi horns, ferry boats, cars and human voices filled the air. The afternoon heat was stifling in August with temperatures and humidity both near 100. Beads of sweat danced on our foreheads! There was no air conditioning in the church house, but from the floor to the ceiling there were screenless windows which rolled out. Every window in the church was open, allowing us to see outside and the wind to blow inside. Imagine a church built like a breezeway! Feeling almost faint, gusts of refreshing wind would blow upon us suddenly just in the nick of time. God’s cool wind in the hot times sounds like grace to me. Dressed in a full-length robe, I was grateful for the gift of every breeze. I encouraged the groom and bride to be open to the Holy Spirit like a breezeway. God fills those who are open and hungry for His filling! What about you? Are you more like a bunker (closed in) or a breezeway (opened up)? Are all the windows of your heart open to the Holy Spirit? Are they rolled out? Are you longing for the Wonder of the Wind to blow again on you suddenly? The Spirit can blow at any moment. Praying for Fresh Winds,
