CARRIED“…you have seen how the Lord Years ago, I lived in Florida. I drove to the beach one early morning to hear the waves and smell the water. I love the simple, refreshing, and cost free blessings of life. Though the fog wafted over the beach, I could see something coming towards me in the distance. It drew closer and as I gazed through the haze, I saw an old man pulling a red wagon along the shoreline. The old man of the sea and the wagon both looked worn like refined treasure. But in the wagon was very precious carried treasure – the man’s elderly wife no longer able to walk. Love carries those who are unable to walk on their own two feet. Some things are just meant to be carried like buckets and babies and all God’s children. I am reminded of that great poem, “Footprints in the Sand.” The writer, Margaret Powers, describes a dream a man had about walking side by side with the Lord along the beach. Confirming this reassuring reality was another set of footprints. Looking at those footprints during the most difficult time in his life, however, the man saw only a single set of steps. But, as the poem points out, even though the man wondered if the Lord had deserted him at that time, nothing could have been further from the truth. Rather, the Lord had been carrying him. Scripture reassures us that God is a carrying God. We are a carried people. Our Lord carried His children out of Egypt on eagles’ wings (Exodus 19:4). He carried our sorrows (Isaiah 53:4) and our diseases (Matthew 8:17). He carries us close to His heart (Isaiah 40:11). The one true God says to His people, “I have carried you since your birth. Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you” (Isaiah 46:3-4). Life grows sweeter the more we learn the secret joy of being carried. Reminding you that you are God’s treasure,
