Bits of Yesterday“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” One afternoon driving on a country road I spotted a little antique store named “Bits of Yesterday.” Big and little objects marked by time, wear, and weather lay all over the store lawn. I began to ponder how all of our lives are made up of both bits of yesterday and dreams for tomorrow. We have both memory and imagination. Strewn all over our minds are past memories – some full of pain and some full of gain. All of us either need healing of the memories or we can be healed by our memories. Chapter 3 of Lamentations is written by a man who has endured suffering but whose memories have led him to the conclusion that God is faithful. His mercies endure forever. He is always willing to begin anew with those who turn to Him. God has certainly been with The Orchard Church. Celebrating four years of life together, we praise God for His faithfulness. He has brought us together from different backgrounds and experience to worship Him and learn from one another. We haven’t done everything right or well, but He is still with us. Today we share in bits of yesterday – stories of how God has been faithful to us in the past. We also imagine what’s ahead. We have God sized dreams. Paul reminds us that God “is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20). It has been said that “when our memories exceed our dreams, we are on our way out.” I prefer to believe that we are on our way into “far more.” Let’s live what we have been singing about the past few months, “I Believe There is More.” As we continue our journey together, no matter what road we find ourselves on, let’s hold in our hearts “bits of yesterday” while imagining “far more.” Happy 4th Birthday,
