What a blessing our Orchard Family is! They contributed 63 pairs of shoes and 43 pairs of socks to the Shoes for Orphan Souls Drive! Please pray for the caring volunteers who will visit an orphanage to deliver the new shoes and socks! It will brighten the darkest day and for the first time, children aren't just hearing about God's love - they're seeing it in action. Thank you Orchard Family for giving from your heart!

Our 1st Sunday Potluck for September will be a 2nd Sunday Poltuck due to the fact that The Orchard's Birthday is the second Sunday of September and we want to celebrate around tables together that day. Please note that we will not have a potluck on Sept. 6 but will have it on Sept.13 in hope that the whole church family will plan to join us.

The second Men's Fraternity series, "Winning a Work and Home" will launch on Saturday, September 19th at 7:00 AM.

We will be meeeting on the 1st and 3rd Saturday morning of each month (with a few exceptions - for example, Sep. 3rd due the the Women's Conference). See Chris Suitter for more details.

Women's Fellowship - September 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Orchard Ministry Center. Darla Spears will be the host and you should see her on Sunday to sign up for the item you would like to bring for a delicious Pasta Bar. Make time to enjoy this great time of fellowship, food and inspiration.

Ladies - make plans for a new Bible Study opportunity. One in a Million - a Bible Study written by Priscilla Shirer in exploration of the Israelites' journey through the wilderness. Join us as we are encouraged to fully engage in the abundant life that God has waiting for those who will allow Him to take the lead in daily living. This is an opportunity to experience deliverance from strongholds, to conquer your wilderness living and to claim your God-given inheritance. One in a Million is a 7 week study beginning on September 23 and ending on November 4. If you plan to participate, please pick up a One in a Million member book at Lifeway prior to the first class. The cost of the book is $11.95 If the book cost is prohibitive, please see Pastor Anita.

The church has need of a Pack and Play and a rocking chair for the nursery. If you have either of these items in good condition and would be willing to donate them, please contact Darla Spears or Anita Pringle.

On September 13th David Knight and Jason Glasgow will begin leading a 13 week study of Ephesians during our Acts 2:42 time. The title of the study is "The Orchard: a Spiritual Family." If Acts 2:42 is not a part of your regular Sunday activities now would be a great time to get started. Children and youth have Christian Education opportunities as well during Acts 2:42 and a nursery is provided. See you at 9:15 each Sunday.

The Ladies Prayer Group meets Wednesday at 9:15 a.m and the Men's Prayer Group meets Thursday at 6:30 a.m. at The Orchard Ministry Center.

SLOW US DOWN

“Be still, and know that I am God”
~ Psalm 46:10 ~

Have you ever sprinted through the bedtime ritual? I have been guilty of hurrying the boys into bed so I can scurry off to complete one or more projects before I lay my body down! Mother Teresa once said, “Everybody today seems to be in such a terrible rush, anxious for greater developments so that children have very little time with their parents and parents have very little time for each other – at home begins the disruption of the peace of the world.”

I read recently that there is now something called “The One-Minute Bedtime Story.” Authors have condensed the classic fairy tales into sixty-second sound bites to help parents deal with time consuming tots. This makes me want to weep. I ask, “What is happening to us that we would not have time to read a longer story without being able to resist the itch to hurry on?”

Relationships can’t be built in sixty seconds; nurturing care is rarely quick or convenient. One must know how to do two things when learning how to drive – how to go and how to stop. The same is true in life. Most of us have the go part down, but not the stop part. Our families will break apart if we don’t learn how to brake!

Please pray with me: “Lord, forgive us when people, especially our children, become a project or a number on our list of things to do. Give us the grace and power to resist the shallowness of busyness and the emptiness and selfishness of placing projects before people. May the joy of loving relationships overcome every itch to hurry.”

For Godly Peace and Pace,

Pastor Chris

P.S. Let’s practice slowing down and experience the joys of taking time for our Lord and one another.
