Stay completely up-to-date by regularly visiting The Orchard's Calendar of Events at: www.theorchardfranklin.com

As we move toward the fall, the start of a new school year and the beginning of a new Christian Education year for our children and youth, we would ask that you pray about whether God may be calling you to serve in the Children's Ministry as a teacher during Acts 2:42 or as a volunteer in the nursery during worship. If you feel that God is calling you to nurture, teach and love our children, please contact Pastor Anita ASAP.

This Sunday, July 26 during Acts 2:42 we will begin a 6 week study entitled "God Will Make a Way" by Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend. Who among us does not need a fresh infusion of the assurance that "God will make a way" in our present situation or in what we may encounter in the days, weeks and months ahead? Each week we will have the opportunity to hear from the presenters and then follow with a time of discussion and prayer. Begin this week a new habit of being at church at 9:15 for a time of fellowship with your brothers and sisters in Christ and a time of refreshing and renewal for your soul. See you on Sunday.

Please don't forget to turn in your "Spiritual Well-Being and Discipleship" survey. There will be a box on the table in the back of the worship area on Sunday for you to drop your annonymous survey.

The Ladies Prayer Group meets Wednesday at 9:15 a.m and the Men's Prayer Group meets Thursday at 6:30 a.m. at The Orchard Ministry Center.

Mark your calendars for the following events:

July 29 - Women's Prayer Time

Clay Balls

“But we have this treasure in
jars of clay to show that this
all-surpassing power is
from God and not from us”
~ 2 Corinthians 4:7 ~

A person never gets so rich that he can afford to lose a friend.”

A man was exploring caves by the seashore. In one of the caves he found a canvas bag with a bunch of hardened clay balls. It was like someone had rolled clay balls and left them out in the sun to bake. They didn’t look like much, but they intrigued the man, so he took the bag out of the cave with him. As he strolled along the beach, he would throw the clay balls one at a time out into the ocean as far as he could.

He thought little about it, until he dropped one of the clay balls and it cracked open on a rock. Inside was a beautiful, precious stone! Excited, the man started breaking open the remaining clay balls. He found thousands of dollars worth of jewels in the 20 or so clay balls he had left.

Then it struck him. He had been on the beach a long time. He had thrown maybe 50 or 60 of the clay balls with their hidden treasure into the ocean waves. Instead of thousands of dollars in treasure, he could have taken home tens of thousands, but he had just thrown it away!

It’s like that with people. We look at someone, maybe even ourselves, and we see the external clay vessel. It doesn’t look like much from the outside. It isn’t always beautiful or sparkling, so we discount it.

We see that person as less important than someone more beautiful, stylish, well known, wealthy, holy, or seemingly more together. But we have not taken the time to find the treasure hidden inside that person. Often our impressions or suspicions keep us from getting to know someone and receiving treasure from them. The devil enjoys keeping us from one another.

There is treasure in each and every one of us. If we take the time to get to know that person, and if we ask God to show us that person the way He sees them, then the clay begins to peel away and the brilliant gem begins to shine forth.

May we not come to the end of our lives and find out that we have thrown away a fortune in friendships because the gems were hidden in bits of clay that we mistakenly thought lacked the value to get to know. May we see the people in our world as God sees them.

Thank you for looking beyond my clay vessel,

Pastor Chris
