Blooming Where You Are“…for I have learned in whatever ~ Philippians 4:11 ~ We are God’s sheep. And sheep tend to think that whatever field they are in is not as good as the field they are not in. If we are in school, we want to be out. If we are at home, we want to be on vacation. If we are married, we want to be single at least when there’s tension at home. But when we are alone, our hearts ache for companionship. Dissatisfaction blinds us. The grass is greener on the other side type thinking stifles creative and grateful living in the present. “We do not know Jesus unless we are grateful” (Thomas Merton). What about you? Are you living gratefully? Can you see with eyes of faith that God is working in all your present circumstances? Or are you living for some distant day when everything will be more perfect? An old pastor said to a group of young pastors who tended to believe the lie that there’s always a better place to serve than where they are, “There is no ideal place to serve God except the place God sets you down.” Take a moment to praise God for where He has set you down. It may not be where you want, but it is where you are. The place you find yourself has the most potential to grow you, not the place you think you want to be. Wherever you are is where life can grow. It’s where seeds can sprout and flowers can bloom. “Mountaintops are for views and inspiration, but fruit is grown in the valleys” (Billy Graham). Don’t wait for a distant day, but stop where you are right now and pray: “Heavenly Father, deliver me from discontent in every circumstance. Help me slay the giant of dissatisfaction and rise up in powerful praise. Help me bloom where you have set me down.” For Better Blooming,
