IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES“For nothing is impossible with God” The angel of the Lord spoke these words to an awe-struck Mary who just received the news that she would give birth to the holy Son of God. Centuries earlier God had told Abraham and Sarah that they would birth a son in their old age. The very thought of it was so preposterous that Sarah laughed to herself. But the Lord asked, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14). Is God recalling you to have faith in His wonderful working power? Nothing is too hard for Yahweh. He makes all things possible. Jeremiah prays, “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you” (32:17). On another occasion when the disciples questioned Jesus about how hard it was for rich men to be saved, Jesus answered, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). God makes the static dynamic. The other day, my dear Brady boy gave me a drawing he worked so hard on. He sketched a basketball player wearing jersey number 14. The player was looking toward the goal above him ready to shoot and hoping to score. He titled the drawing “Imagine the Possibilities.” My mind began to soar with thoughts of God at work in me and in you in ways seen and unseen. So often we get stuck in a cycle of doubtful thinking. We spend more time pondering problems than pausing on the possibilities. We cease dreaming about what God can do for us, in us, and through us. I’m not talking about imagining possibilities of becoming a millionaire or the most popular person on the planet – I’m talking about kingdom dreaming. Imagine God embracing us with His grace to help us live in soaring freedom and fullness of love. Dream of how the Lord can make the crooked straight and the rough smooth. See Him delivering the oppressed and spiritually blind and bringing new life to the sick at heart. Imagine yourself receiving this good news at every level of your life and sharing it with others. Imagine faces of people you would like for God to touch. Believe He will. May God sanctify our imaginations until we have “triumphant thought patterns.” Imagine, dream, look to a God “who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…” (Ephesians 3:20). On the court of life, don’t be afraid to shoot – God may even give you a slam dunk! Dreaming with you and for you,
