LOOKING FOR LIFE
“My people went far from Me and walked
after emptiness and became empty”
~
Jeremiah 2:5b ~
“For the mind set on the flesh is death, but
the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace”
~
Romans 8:6 ~
The following article appeared some time ago in Christianity Today and describes a world that is looking for life and happiness in all the wrong places.
The paradox of our time in history is that
We spend more, but have less;
We buy more, but enjoy it less.
We have bigger houses, but smaller families;
More conveniences, but less time;
More medicine, but less wellness.
We read too little, watch TV too much,
and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions,
but reduced our values.
These are the times of tall men, and short character;
Steep profits, and shallow relationships.
These are the days of two incomes, but more divorce;
Of fancier houses, but broken homes.
We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life;
We’ve added years to life, not life to years;
We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul.
Jesus said, “The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy; I have come that you may have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10). Life and life abundant aren’t found in things, but in a relationship with the living Christ. As summer begins, let’s intentionally choose to seek Jesus – to look for life and happiness in all the right places.
Believing that Jesus is the Fullness of Life,
