Stay completely up-to-date by regularly visiting The Orchard's Calendar of Events at: www.theorchardfranklin.com

This week you should complete chapters 11-20 in the book of Acts and begin reading the last 8 chapters the week of May 24 in preparation for Pentecost Sunday on May 31. It has been a very meaningful experience for the whole church family to be reading the same things each week. Let's continue.

The women's small group for "Life's Healing Choices" will meet Wednesday May 27 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Orchard Ministry Center. Prepare for discussion of Chapter 4 in the book and workbook.

On Pentecost Sunday, May 31 we will be collecting Bibles for Times of Refreshing Ministries, a Franklin based ministry that collects and ships Bibles to third world and overseas churches and ministries. TORM is attempting to collect 20,000 bibles to fill a cargo container for Jamaica. On May 31 please bring new or used Bible and place $1 in each Bible to help defray the shipping cost. Let's reach out to the people of Jamaica with the Word of God.

The Ladies Prayer Group meets each Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m at the home of Donna VanLiere.

The Men's Prayer Group meets each Thursday morning from 6:30 - 8:00 a.m. at The Orchard Ministry Center.

We are receiving many prayer requests and that is a great thing for a church that desires to be a "house of prayer." There is a Prayer Box on the table in the back of the worship area for you to place prayers requests. The requests will then be prayed for by our weekly women's and men's prayer groups. Prayer requests for Orchard family members can still be sent out via email by contacting Pastor Anita.

Mark your calendars for the following events:

May 27 - Women's Prayer Time
May 27 - Men's Healing Choices
May 28 - Men's Prayer Time
May 31 - Bible Collection

What Are You Spreading?

“And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored”
~ Numbers 13:32 ~

Each day we have the opportunity to choose what we spread. What we spread is a clear indication of what’s really in our hearts and heads. Jesus says, “For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45). We can say we have faith, but if we spread unbelief and negativity then we deceive ourselves. As people of faith, we have the privilege and responsibility to spread faith – to speak words that call attention to the power and faithfulness of God.

This is a tall challenge. To magnify God, we will have to resist ingrained tendencies to minimize others.  We will have to choose self-control over what James calls the most unruly member of the body, the tongue. We will have to consider the power of our words to build people or bury them. The words we speak can build or bury us too. God does not honor negativity or bad reporting. He honors faith.

Ten of the twelve spies never saw the Promised Land. We can’t even remember their names although clearly spelled out for us in Numbers 13:4-15. We only remember the names of Joshua and Caleb, the two who gave a good report. Scripture says they had a different spirit and followed the Lord wholeheartedly (14:24). May this description characterize us. Let’s offer ourselves as mouthpieces for God’s honor.

As a new day approaches, may the way we speak be new, fresh from heaven. As Paul says, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God…get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you” (Ephesians 4:29-32).

For more good reports,

Pastor Chris
